 The park is home to a new generation of wild horses, known as the Przewalski Horses, which had
gone extinct from Asia by the 1950ies.
 In 1993 a few remaining species were brought here from European zoos and conservation areas and
reintroduced to their historical homeland. Today, after 30 years, a few hundred wild horses, all
born in Mongolia, roam the park having to withstand predators and the harsh climate
 The initiative has also allowed the conservation and breeding of red Deer, Mongolian gazelles,
wild sheep, and marmots.

 The founder of the Mongol empire is depicted looking in the direction of his birthplace and
resting his right hand on a golden whip he found here, as the legend suggests
 Then continue to Terelj national park, a wide mountain bowl dotted with Spectacular rock
formations often named after things they resemble.

 We visit Turtle rock, the park’s famous landmark, and climb an easy trail to a pretty
Buddhist temple perched on a cliff.
 Wooden boards with Buddhist pearls of wisdom written on them lead to the temple.
